CCDP is launching the Southern Colorado Center for Immigrant Rights thanks to a grant from SC Ministry Foundation. We anticipate the office will open in April. The Board of Directors of CCDP designated $50,000.00 to Grand Valley Catholic Outreach in Grand Junction to start a similar program there.

The Colorado Trust awarded CCDP a three-year grant to provide case management services and English as a Second Language classes for migrant and farmworker families who live and work in Pueblo, Crowley and Otero counties. Liz Velez was hired as the mental health case manager. Dee Castellanos was hired as the ESL Instructor. A Pueblo native, Dee taught ESL and Adult Education in the Los Angeles public school system for over 20 years. Both Dee and Liz are off to a great start.

Farmworker Housing

The County Commissioners awarded Posada a grant of $45,000 to purchase land to build 42 units of housing off 58th Lane in Avondale for farmworker housing. CCDP, the Diocese of Pueblo and Los Pobres are working with Posada on this project.

CCDP received a grant from the Tony Grampsas Youth Services Program o the State of Colorado to do mental health assessment training for child care providers in Pueblo. The Devereux Early Childhood Assessment (DECA) is a research-based, standardized assessment of children's within-child protective factors in pre-school children aged two to five. The DECA evaluates the frequency of 27 positive behaviors (i.e. strengths) exhibited by preschoolers. The goals of the DECA are to

  • Identify and strengthen young children's protective factors and thereby increase resilience.
  • Support teachers, families, and communities in their efforts to minimize the impact of risk factors that hinder healthy social and emotional development.
CCDP hopes to train over 100 early childhood development teachers in Pueblo.

Bright Beginnings has established a partnership with the Hope Pregnancy Center in Trinidad to expand Bright Beginnings Home visits there.

Circle of Hope:
CCDP and the Pueblo Community Health Center are working together to identify a network of Licensed Professional Counselors, Licensed Clinical Social Workers and Psychologists who will commit to providing a limited number of counseling sessions either pro bono or for a greatly reduced fee, following the income guidelines of Catholic Charities Diocese of Pueblo (CCDP) and the Pueblo Community Health Center (PCHC). The Pueblo Mental Health Association is sponsoring a tribute to Eleanor Hamm, director of the Suicide Prevention Center; some of the proceeds are going to benefit this project.
